Well I think I'm getting close on the days required, 365 is it? I thought i would put down the $900.00 plus and get my coastguard 6-pack, OUPV ticket. I am a science teacher (public high school) by trade but have a little time to follow a dream in the summer months. My question to you-in-the-know (and you with just an unqualified opinion) is... is it worth it? There are many oprotunities here for a person with a license but I also have a CDL that has done me little good.... Thanks for your feedback (Capt.?)Matt

You could teach sailing weekends

To teach an on-the-water-course in the US requires a 6 Pack. Teaching sailing could go hand-in-hand with your other teaching. (Do you like teaching?) Deliveries also come to mind. Something to do over the summer. Chartering does not appeal to me, but that is another option.

as god as you want it to be

It will be as good as your CDL is unless you use it. There is plenty of work for a CDL why is it unused?

Go for it!

You are in a great location for all kinds of fun stuff on the water (boat deliveries, teaching sailing, charters etc.). Everything between the Keys and Tampa Bay is within striking distance from Naples. I heard that the best way to do the six-pack is to take the test without studying. You will probably flunk but don't worry, because now you know what they are looking for. Study that stuff and you will ace the test on the next go round. It's kind of like trying to find a spot in a strange anchorange, you should go through once at idle speed to check things out first. Good luck! Peter H23 "Raven"
