I have an opportunity to buy an Ericson 30' sailboat built in 1973. It is in the water. I would like to hear about pros and cons of the purchase. Thank you.
I don't have one, BUT I occasionally crew on a mid 80's 32 and have friends/acquaintances who sail mid-late 70's 25 & 30. They have nothing but praise for these boats. When I'm able to move up a bit, I'll first look for a 25 or 27. They're solid, roomy, sail well, point well, are stable. Haven't found significant problems with them that I know of.
I concur with what Lynn says. I especially liked the intgrated hull and keel. Very solid feeling. It did have a tendency to "fishtail" going down wind, broad reaching and running, more than most other boats. I found out later from other Ericson owners that this was characteristic. Other than that it was superior in handling and faster than almost every other sailboat of it's size. Also, it would depend a lot on what type of engine it has.
