Hey all - two quickies here. First...I'm digging around as best as I can and I'm getting a pretty solid consencus that I'm 'allowed' to set up a temporary moor on any lake provided it meets a few simple criteria - the primary being that the resulting moorage doesn't impede public access. Can anyone verify this?
Then, second......I'm looking for the best way to moor on a sandy bottomed, shallow lake. We'll be sitting in 20" of water give or take and would rather float it as opposed to run it up. Last year I spun one of those dog-stake screw things
and used it as a moor for our Hobie Getaway but the MacGregor is a bit of a bigger beast. Are there any screw-down options anyone would recommend?
I do happen to have four of these things in the shed.
They are sold to anchor your typical garden shed to the ground. I guess I could bring a couple and see how they grab? The dog screw was ok. It had to be 'unscrewed' to remove it for the first third of the way but then with enough wiggling I was able to pull it out....pretty sure the sand goes DEEEEEP on that lakebed (Gull Lake).
Our boat came to us with a danforth and what looks to be the West marine anchor rode kit (30" of chain, the rest nylon rope). We're going to buy a new main anchor and rode - likely a plow or scoop variety prior to this trip. Would the two anchors be enough for all of you to sleep easy at night? For this two week stint we won't be on the boat but two weeks following we'll be sneaking out for overnighters as often as able.
