Short splice

On checking my anchor rode I noticed chaffing at 150 feet. I have 300 feet of 9/16 three strand nylon. I didn't want to buy all new line. I cut out the chafe and used a short splice. I read that a short splice strength is nearly that of the original line. Is this the case? and would you trust the splice to hold?

Good eye. Maybe do a long splice?

And maybe even seize/whip the terminations?

A long splice is weaker than a short splice, since a strand is removed. The ONLY reason for a long splice is to go through a block. So long as you do not have a windlass, short splice.

A short splice will be as strong as the termination at the anchor end, which is not quite 100% either. No problem.

Two eyes? That's just adding more wear and failure points. Can't imagine a reason to do it that way unless joining 2 incompatible rope types or to break a very long line into more manageable parts.
