Anyone use a short shaft engine on a H-22? Perhaps with a modification to the bracket Jim

Long Shaft

Hi Jim, I have a Johnson sail Master long shaft 9.9. I also use a high quality adjustable motor mount. I sail in rough water, so motoring in extreme conditions DEMANDS the prop bee deep in the water. this is because the transom will lift up as the bow dives in rough water. However in calm water--if you CAN COUNT ON IT--it should not matter as long as it is deep enough not to cavitate. You will also have problems if a person goes to the bow. On these small boats, one person at the bow has a large impact on the transom. There is very little boat in the water to keep it from dipping down at the bow which lifts the stern on a 22. Hope this is helpful things to consider. Mark
