Short season but I wouldn't have missed it

Another short season for me this year. Last year it was getting my new (to me) 9.2A ready and moving it to Boston end of July followed by two months of pneumonia. This year it was two months of complications following my Mom's major surgery. She is doing well and I am far from giving up on sailing.

I probably got in less than twenty hours of sailing this year, but the year was not without memorable moments. I took Triple Play out during a small craft warning and had a blast. Reefed main only, but I learned a lot about my boat and sailing. I also took her out on a day on which I had a beautiful run wing on wing, giving me a good appreciation of her capabilities down wind. I even enjoyed a very brief sunset cruise last Sunday with a good friend I from CA.

I do wish I had gotten a chance to sleep overnight on her, but it just wasn't in the cards. Way back in high school I used to stay up late eating boneless spare ribs (as a substitute for a sailors salt pork) and reading Horatio Hornblower and I hoped to repeat the experience afloat onboard out of pure nostalgia.

I also hoped to make more progress on maintenance and improvements. The season passed and I didn't get my new pedestal guard with its navpod and with my GPS and stereo controls mounted. However, the new stereo got installed and the guard has the navpod mounted with the GPS and stereo controls nigh ready to roll. Just a little wiring left and mounting to go.
Did lose ground in that my potable water tank sprouted a leak and that will will be a PITA to replace.

Anyhow, I still am very happy with Triple Play and will deal with the fact that, although she will remain a floating project for some time, she is certainly a worthwhile one to me.

I hope everyone enjoyed their season, if it has ended, or will continue to enjoy it if it hasn't.

It'll all be that much better next year, Bob. Glad your mother is feeling better.

Bob, it sounds like you had more of a season than I had. I don't know what happened - the season was late starting followed by about 4 weeks lost replacing the mixing elbow. Then it was a matter of coordinating work schedules with decent weather - all in all we managed to get out 5 or 6 times at the most for just a couple of hours each time. We had wind in the jib one time and a couple of the trips out didn't even uncover the main. I sure hope that '10 is a much better sailing season for us. At least I have plenty of time to my engine problems taken care of.

Only 6 months until we can go back in the water. I've enjoyed, and learned from, the posts this past summer. Have a great winter

For what it's worth the sailing season just started here in Phoenix, Arizona. I sail a friends S2 7.3 on Lake Pleasant, just North of town. If it gets too cold for you folks and you find yourself in the area, contact me and I would be happy to take you for a sail.

Fair winds.
