I was reading an article were the boat owner did a complete boat refit to his sailboat that was 3 hours away from home. I just realized how lucky I am to be able to walk outside of my office and work on my boat with all my tools on hand. I though I had it rought but I have a greater respect for some of you that have to travel many hours just to do some work on the boat.
Here is the view from my office window.
Cheers

Navigation table project finished. Now on to the radar pole.

Sure, rub it in! :) Mine is presently 1580 miles away. Come end of October it will be just 80 miles away. For me that is like the back yard after leaving Lake Erie in July 2007.

The only thing better would be to walk to work from home. Think what a better world this would be, with less traffic and tension.

LOL, well I'm not THAT close. 2.5 miles from the marina, 4 miles from the yard.

Wow. My boat is only 12 minutes away. I have a 1 hour transit to get to sailing room, but an hour in the boat beats an hour on the freeway, so I guess I'll stop whining about that!

I'm about 25 minutes to the cockpit.
Even at the dock beats anywhere else.

Proximity

Well the picture in my avatar is of my boat on her mooring and was taken from the deck on my house...which is also my office! Of course, once hauled out for the winter, she is in the boat yard, which is a five minute drive away - that sucks!

The distance to my boat coincides with a perfect amount of aerobic exercise and significant savings in gas and gym fees each year.

Distance by car: About 7 miles not in a straight line and with several obnoxiously long stop lights = about 15 minutes average each way.

Distance by bicycle: 5.5 miles in more-or-less a straight line on an old railroad right of way converted to a bike/pedestrian path and only one stop light = 18 minutes each way ... Plus after returning home sweat, is streaming down my face and there is no guilt about having a few beers due to the fitness benefit and the cost of two beers equals about the same as the cost of gas for my car if I had driven. Great deal all around.

We're about 150 miles from the dock by road, and 5,000 feet higher. That's the price for living in the mountains. But when I drive out of the snow in midwinter and go sailing, it seems like a really good idea and no distance at all.

Boat's out the back door for us, but my work is 75 miles away :doh:luckily that's just 3 days a week and then two from home.
