Shore Power Ground Problem

I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. When I connect the 30 amp shore power, I get some power as the electric circuit tester lights light up (and shows everything is wired ok). However, when I turn on anything like the battery charger, I pop the circuit breaker on the dock. By accident, I found everything will run ok if the gren ground wire is not connected to the dock power supply. I've run through some of the tests in Don Casey's book, e.g. polarity, grounding wire connection between receptable and 30 amp cord plug. The only test that failed so far is the one where the resistance is tested between the ground blade on the plug and the negative battery cable. I couldn't get any sort of reading, so I assume the two grounds are not connected. Should they be? A friend's Niagara 35 doesn't have the grounds connected.

The tests also talk about a galvanic isolator. Would a '95 Catalina have one? Could a defective one cause my problem?

Any other suggestions? This new-to-me boat was just transported a long way by truck and I'm wondering if the travel could have jostled something that could be causing the problem.

Any suggestions for testing would be most appreciated!

Rob.

Galvanic Isolator

Only if the PO installed one. If that is the case it may not have been installed correctly.
