I am going to install shore power on our 1994 26S, in which we just bought. I am trying to find some ideas on where other people have installed a 30 amp inlet on their boat. Where is your's mounted? I also have a 3 gallon plastic gas tank for the outboard. Where do you keep your gas tank on your 26? Mine will fit in the motor well, but I'm just wondering if that is the normal spot for most people. Ray

Laserette Improvements

I installed my shore power inlet towards the front of the motor well and then put the 110V breaker panel on the front wall of rear flotation compartment (over aft berth). For fuel, I have installed a permanent 12 gallon fuel tank under the motor well inside the laserette. The permanent tank is filled and vented from outside which keeps spills and fumes from the inside of the laserette. In addition, I have installed a bilge blower to force vent the laserette. This is located under the floor I made to provide a level surface to mount all the gear I placed in teh laserette. Many do place their portable fuel tanks in the laserette with passive venting. HOwever, I am more comfortable with the permanent tank and the bilge blower. Hope this helps. Steve Shenkel

I had done something similar. Check out my Mac Mods page

Lazerette Improvements

Thanks Steve. I couldn't find a spot in the cabin that looked good for the 30 amp inlet, so I figured the Lazerette/motor well area would end up being my only spot. I like the 12 gallon tank idea too.

Marks Mods

Mark, Did I see correctly, is your battery mounted under the starboard 1/4 berth/seating area? Thanks for the ideas and pictures!

Trailer balancing

I mounted my spare tire on the front of the trailer to help give me some extra weight on the tongue. The battery will help too, the bigger the better.

Breaker Panel Location

I do not have a picture of the breaker panel location as I described it. I hope to get to the boat this weekend and I will try to take a few pictures. Attached is a picture of the motor well area. You can barely see the shore power inlet as well as the fuel/vent filler cap. Steve

Internal Tank Installation

Attached is a picture of the tank under the motor well. With the clutter, reduced resolution, and the darkness, the picture is not very sharp. At any rate, it functions well for me. Currently using a dip stick as a fuel gauge, as the Tempo provided one never worked. Steve

Tank and Vents

Steve, Thanks for the pictures! The tank vent goes out the port side of the boat, correct? The white vent hose I see for the blower, is that sucking and blowing air from the Laserette out to your motor well?

Tank Vent

The black tank filler cap has an integral tank vent in the same unit; one of the reasons I chose it. That is why it is elongated in shape. In the same picture, you can see the bilge blower duct. At the time I took the picture, I had routed the gas hose to the outboard, into the bilge blower duct and had it exit the cowl vent in the motor well. As this placed a lot of wear and tear on the bilge blower duct, I have since added a smaller cowl vent through which I pass the gas hose to the motor. Steve

Question about picture

Steve, What is the electrical connection just behind the little propane tank in the picture? Ray

Electrical Connection

The connection is the alternator output from the motor (6 HP Johnson). I have moved the battery up under the vee berth for better access and weight balance. The longer run for the alternator wiring (to the battery)required heavier wiring. FYI Steve
