Shoot the messenger

So the yard is stepping my mast yesterday, I get the shrouds and stays pinned, and the yard hand grabs the jib halyard messenger line and yanks it out of the mast!!! Of course I'm not to happy at this point and they say "Oh well, I guess we'll have to pull the mast to run a new messenger, but we're done for the day and maybe we'll get to it next week sometime" So my question to you folks is how easy is it to feed a messenger from the masthead down to the exit sheave. Is it a crap shoot and worth the time aloft or should the mast be pulled again?ThanksJerry Keto (Hunter 34)

Do it

Just tie a small weight (smooth shape) on the end of the line. Drop it down until it hits bottom. Use a long paperclip or something to fish it out of the exit hole. Nothing to it.

So let's get going here, it'll be dark soon."Another reason to stay out of boatyards when at all possible. Thanks Doug, I'll send one of the yard guys up the mast for this but I won't tell them I'm the one who did the eye splice on the main halyard.

If, If, If ---

1 - If he's got an brains at all, which as a yard rat is not likely, he won't even think of trusting the shackle. I'd trust MY splice, but I don't know about yours!2 - Around here yard rats are hired around the end of February, know what a boat is by November, and are burnt out and laid off permanently for Thanksgiving. Then you get a whole new crew for the next spring.Instills confidence, doesn't it?
