last season I noticed fiberglass flaking away on the keel about 6in. below the bottom of the boat. It looks as if fiberglass covers the keel at least partially. Should I grind away around the area and fill in with fiberglass cloth and resin or is there another recomended repair. ( 1986 Hunter 25.5 ) Thanks Rick

Hunter 25.5 keel repair
My guess is that the H25.5 keel is cast iron with wings, just like the H23. There are several excellent articles in the archives on refinishing iron keels. The best is probably the one written by Jon Bastien a couple of years ago. Search the archives under "H23 keel". Good luck. Peter H23 "Raven"

Iron keel with no wing
The 25.5's had iron keels without wings. Mine is the shoal draft model and there is no covering material on it except for paint and rust of course. Are you sure it is fiberglass and not just a large flake of rust? Dan
