I have a 1987 26.5. Does it have what is referred to as a "shoal draft keel " ? And what is a shoal draft keel ? Thanks.

keel the messenger

The HOW specs page shows that your model was made with either 4'-6" draft or 3'-3" draft. I'm not real familiar with your model but it looks to me like it was offered in fin keel or wing keel options (both are pretty self-explanatory, if yours has wings on the bottom then that's it) A shoal draft keel is a shallow draft keel, sometimes retractable, made for shallow water sailing. One of the advantages of a wing keel is its shallower draft.

P.S.

BTW, I think you have a 25.5, since Hunter never made a 26.5.

Sorry Steve O.

Steve, hunter really did make a 26.5, because I have one. As a matter of fact its a rather nice inland/shore boat. Thanx T Flash H26.5

If memory serves me, we have a rather nice photo of the "phantom" Hunter... ;)

I stand corrected

At the time I checked the "Boats specs", someone who shall remain nameless but who's initials are PH had inadvertently left that particular model off of the list :) and I'm sure the 26.5 is a wonderful boat, as are all Hunters!
