With the low water levels on the Great Lakes this year we are having considerable problems with our 5'6" draft. Does anyone make a shoal draft unit that fits in place of the full keel on a Hunter 33?

Jack Up The Decals?

I think what you're talking about is called a "New Boat". If you're serious about this it CAN be done but there is certainly no kit available. What it involves is having a bolt-on bulb (usualy two piece) cast, cutting part of the lower portion of your existing keel off, and bolting on the bulb. There was an article, I believe in SAIL magazine some time back that went through the whole process. Mars Metals, the keel maker in Canada is known to be helpful in these projects. You will give up: 1- Large amounts of money. 2- Some of the boat's pointing ability. (Trust me, I have a shoal draft 33) 3- Some percentage of the boat's potential resale value. Keel chop modifications are generaly not looked upon favorably in the resale market, and the 33 is not noted as a high price boat to begin with.
