Once the compass is removed, and the cable is disconnected from the lever section, look down in the tubular mid section of the pedistal .. There probably is a clamp that holds the throttle and shift cables against the side of the tube to keep them from fouling the chain.. There is a screw on the outside that loosens the clamp which then allows the cable to slide through. Do not remove the screw.. loosening it is sufficient.. If ya take the screw out, the clamp will fall down the tube and be a real bugger to re-install.. Good Luck !
