Good day everyone,

I need some assistance finding the correct part for my 1987 Hunter 26.5. I need either a new control cable or the entire control cable with shifter assembly for my Nissan 9.9 outboard motor. My cable is in pretty bad shape and has corroded pretty good from exposure to the saltwater environment. The shift assembly too is difficult to move.

I appreciate any help that your are able to provide, especially websites and part numbers.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

-Dustin

The cables are not proprietary parts... every marine supply store sells them. I changed mine over to Teleflex a few years back.

However, you need to make sure the new cables are compatible with the connector fittings that may be unique to your motor. So....

Remove the old cable. Take it to your nearest chandlery. Find a matching cable. Take connection fittings from old cable, put them on new one to verify fit. Then you're ready to reinstall new cable.

IMO replacing the cables will most likely solve the problem.... it did on my Tohatsu's remote... I was pleasantly surprised. Once installed, you can start tweeking the action at the box end, or the bracket end.... It's not likely to be a motor side issure if you can hand operate the throttle or shift lever.

Are you saying that once you replaced the cable, your shifter lever moved freely?

Yes, the remote control box lever was not at fault.... it was the crappy cable that restricted it. Change the cable first, sounds like it's time anyway.

Is anyone aware of what length this cable needs to be for the h26.5?

Okay, so I have measured my control cable and see that it comes out to approximately 6'. I went to my local West Marine store and it turns out that they have NO cables. They say they have to order the cable for me, but I need to know the part number first. I went back to my boat to look for a part number, but could not find any.

To any h26.5 owner, please let me know what part number I need for my h26.5 to run from the shifted to my Nissan 9.9.

Thanks!

I believe that I have resolved what shift control cable is needed for my 1987 Hunter 26.5 to Nissan 9.9. It seems that the existing defective cable is a 6' Teleflex Red-Jaket 33C cable. Since the purchase of Morse by Teleflex, the Red-Jaket 33C cable has been replaced by the TFXtreme 3300 CC Performance Cables. I purchased a 6' cable from West Marine for $35.99. Once it arrives at my local store from the local West Marine distribution center, I will go out and replace my cable.

Hopefully I will be able to easily remove the connection kit from the existing cable.
