I am rebuilding the sherwood water pump on my universal M-18 on a 1986 Catalina 27' TR. First boat owned and first major engine task. I replaced the seals, impellar and gaskets. I had a time getting the old seals out and the new ones in. After installing the pump, there is water leaking from a hole in the pump casing just before it attaches to the engine. There are two holes there, 180 degrees apart. I am not sure where the two seals are supposed to be set, therefore, I suspect that the first seal, closest to the pump impellar, that faces toward the engine, is not set far enough in the casing? The seals were facing each other when I removed them, so this is how I replaced them. How are the seals supposed to be installed, what are the holes in the casing for, should they pass water, and what is the best way to remove and install these seals? Please help, thanks
