My '07 built/'08 H33 has the 3/4 Sherwood strainer...cross threaded immediately due to the ugly placement and needs to be replaced with something better...anyone??

Replace

Just replace it with the same thing and you will have extra parts.
Is it leaking bad and need to replace ASAP or wait until next haul, you could replace it with a more $$$$ one and will it fit in that spot or just replace it with same.
I have three of the same units on my Hunter 36 and they do the job OK,yes
thinking of adding better more $$$ but than the installation might not fit nicely as they do now,I have six thru hulls now in a nice easy place I think same as your 33.

Re: Replace

The 33 has the tru hulls in one place, but not as neatly spaced or placed, and the strainer is set at an awkward angle making servicing difficult...compared to the good old glass and brass units as on my older 30t's. Fumblers like me can cross thread too easily. Not leaking that bad, and since I am in Maine, boating season is 'bout over anyway. Brr. If I can find a way to replace with another type this winter, I probably will, although replacement of this unit appears to be easy and the unit is cheap enough $30 or so...Thanks

Yes

I agree that they are not easy to take apart and clean which I do alot and maybe doing it so much has made me find it easier,I have three so yes it's not
so easy to do.
What I do is put it down in place and before screwing it back on I lift the screen into place and screw the plastic cup on,it does take a few tries some times and
need to take your time.
Yes it's a real pain and that's the only reason why I do also think about changing them but have not found a better solution yet.

Hi,

I changed the raw water filter on mine and re-loacted it. It was below the water line as yours, but over winter froze and cracked so when the boat was put back in it leaked heavily. Could have sunk the boat so I moved it to above the WL and in the engine compartment on the bulkhead wall. The new one is a Vetus.
I am happy !
