The raw water pump on my Universal M-12 is in serious need of repair. It has the Sherwood Brass Works pump on it now, but my local diesel guy cannot find anything in the Sherwood catalog to match. The Universal Engine book has assembly drawings of both the Sherwood and Oberdorfer pumps. It also is the general manual for eight different engines. My question is are these pumps interchangeable or do they show both pumps because some engines have one and some the other? Any help would be greatly appreciated. PM

Both pumps were used

Check out the link. I have found Thorrenson to be the best internet source for Universal engines. Both pumps were used and you'll need to determine which one you have. "durzo szczescia"-if you speak the native tounge.

I switched .... no problem

apparently the pumps are interchangeable and the sherwood was a pain in the neck as the key to hold the impeller to the shaft was not long lasting. the new pump has a shaft with a flat on it that fits nicely into its impeller. The best people for old Universal are apponaug marina, although as I remember I used Boat US. see link. no big deal to change out. Vic "Seven" 272 #622
