Looking to install shelving inside the cabin on the starboard side, between the sitting area and the forward berth. Essentially, enclose the area the curtain covers now. Was hoping something from ikea would get me in the ballpark. Has anyone put shelving in that space? Pics? Thanks!

I am not familiar with the 23.5's cabin layout but it has been my experience that it has been better to make cabinetry to fit instead of trying to make an existing cabinet work. Plus just about all the furniture I have ever worked with Ikea has been of the pressboard variety and that will not fair well if you are a high humidity environment. Which this summer in Indiana, I am not sure we have had a 24 hour period where the humidity has been below 75%.
I made a simple countertop that covered over where our sink used to be and extended over the old water tank out of 1/2" ply after using leftover cardboard to make a template. That way I could match the curve of the hull exactly. I then added a silverware drawer under it that we store silverware and a hundred other small items we regularly use. That has been one of the best and most used projects to date. Super simple and it looks like it was meant to be there.
You can see the cabinet in action here as I cook breakfast. http://adventuresofthememorymakers.blogspot.com/2014/07/july-4th-weekend-fun.html
Maybe that will give you some ideas.

The area where you are planning to install cabinents was designed for a Porta Poti with privacy curtain. If there are females on the boat, you might want to reconsider. Otherwise where would a head go if you proceed?

Sorry, I prob didn't explain it well. I am talking about replacing the curtain essentially, with a panel. Then hang some shelving off of it facing the table. So it would actually be more privacy.

Now I understand your plan. If you are just mounting small shelves to a bulkhead then about anything will work. I would prefer a basket type as a plain shelf will allow everything to fall off the first time you heel over.

Keep the weight down

I was going to build and then found this was much easier and much, much less weight. And you can see what's in it. Oh, and a bungee cord with hooks on each end to keep the drawers from opening while heeling.
