What is your favorite knot or method to attach jib sheet to the sail?

Brummel splice is nice!

I favor the brummel splice for tying jib sheets to the sail clew. The brummel splice uses one long length of line, so you don't have to cut it in half to get two sheets. It is simple, easy to make (only need a fid), lays flat, looks sharp and tailored, and easy to untie. Brion Toss showed it to me and its been a favorite since. Check out pages 97-98 of The Riggers Apprentice. No more bowlines on sheets for me.

Bowline

If you have existing sheets and don't want to buy a single length line, then I use the bowline.

best knot

Bowline for all lines to sails. It's the strongest knot and the easiest to undo if needed.

What I do, what I read

I too tie a bowline for the aforementioned reasons - fast, easy, strong, and easy to undo. But due to the easy to undo part, I was reading John Rousmaniere, who recommends a buntline hitch. It's smaller and tighter than a bowline. His point is "How often do you untie your jibsheets, and have you ever had a bowline shake out on a flogging jib?" If a buntline hitch was as second nature to me as a bowline, I might tie that. In the mean time, I keep the loop as small as possible and the tail relatively long. Even tucking it back into the knot on occasion. T J
