What I do, what I read
I too tie a bowline for the aforementioned reasons - fast, easy, strong, and easy to undo. But due to the easy to undo part, I was reading John Rousmaniere, who recommends a buntline hitch. It's smaller and tighter than a bowline. His point is "How often do you untie your jibsheets, and have you ever had a bowline shake out on a flogging jib?"If a buntline hitch was as second nature to me as a bowline, I might tie that. In the mean time, I keep the loop as small as possible and the tail relatively long. Even tucking it back into the knot on occasion.T J
