Hunter offers a Sharp TV with DVD. Has anyone ordered that option? Can you provide the exact model? Is it a DVD in a TV? How and where did you mount? Is it AC only or AC/DC? Thanks - I have a 2002 356 and am thinking of this option.

Not the Sharp, but

David, I just received yesterday the Sampo 17.4" LCD with TV tuner built in. We got it through Costco for $650 shipped to the house. It has 12v input. We are going to mount it on the portside bulkhead going into the veeberth. We are also looking at some 12v VCR or DVD players that are small and in the $100-200 range. Love this network. It's not on the boat yet

No antenna yet, haven't got that far. It is AC/DC, with it's primary power input as 12v DC. I currently have it behind me using my cable feed. Looks great. Check the link below for more information. Jim S/V Java

LCD TVs

I have been using a 15" LCD computer monitor with a built-in TV tuner for about a year on my Hunter 34. I have it mounted on a swivel on the nav station and it is connected to a DVD player that is mounted on the top of the hanging locker in the aft cabin. I also just mounted a 7" LCD TV in the aft cabin itself. It is great for watching movies snuggled in the aft cabin. It is connected to the same DVD player. See the link for information on the TV we mounted in the aft cabin. BTW, this is a wide screen format (16:9) which is ideal for watching DVDs. Pretty amazing for $229. Gary

Got it

We installed the same Sharp TV (as Hunter is putting on the 426) on our 40.5 last summer. Bought it from BestBuy for around $700 as I recall. It is the Aquino model (not sure of spelling) 15 in size. It is not a DVDcombo and runs on either 12v or 110. The reason we bought this one is because my son said it was the best in terms of contrast, image and viewing angle of all in its class/size and he is pretty knowlegeable about these things. It is far better IMHO than a computer monitor/converter option. We mounted it with its wall mount bracket directly on the forward stb bulkhead (although this is more a function of the boat design than anything else) which backs with the forward stateroom locker making it simple to hide the wiring and DVD in the locker shelf. Great to watch Sunday football games on this time of year here in snowy New England Don Illusion

Apex TV/DVD

David: I am looking at the Apex 20" TV/DVD (A/C only, $199) for my 410. I dont have an inverter so I am also looking at Vector/Prowatt 1500 W inverter so I can use it to power the microwave. Shop around and be patient while searching for your tv/dvd, as I found out that the best prices for electronic are after the Christamas holidays. Happy Shopping, Matias

TV/DVD/computer monitor

We use a Samsung 150MP 15" flat LCD panel ($400-450 (w/rebate)at Office Depot and a DVD player from Farm & Fleet ($88). The DVD player fits anywhere and the flat panel can wall mount or stand on an shelf. Very adaptable for the boat The DVD is about the size of a cigar box and the flat panel is a good size for the boat. For the winter we have the monitor home hooked up to the computer and cable TV and can do PIP of computer and TV or TV alone. Also has inputs for any videp source. If you have a laptop use it for the monitor on the boat. Both can run off 12v (minimal power requirements for both) or shore power.

John: Where did you get the DC power cord for your 150MP? Do you know what size the 12v connector is for the back of the monitor?

Got connector at Radio Shack

Steve - there is an included 110 - 12v transformer that powers the flat panel from shore power. The panel only has 12v input so I took the flat panel's "wall wort" to Radio Shack to get the proper 12v connector and wired it directly into the TV breaker on the 12v side of the panel on our 380. Also ran the power for the DVD to the same breaker. The panel fits neatly in the book shelf above the nav station and is held down by a couple of brackets. We only use 12v power for the "entertainment center". I think that the factory installed entertainment system from Hunter they are now selling on the big boats is maybe $1800 or more. But the Bose surround sound is supposed to be pretty impressive. To me it is way too "power boatie" to have on a sail boat. John

Nothing big enough at RS.

John: I was also at Radio Shack. They did not have a cord that would handle the 3amp DC load. They only went as high as 2amps.

What I got works

Steve - what I got from RS works for me last season. I had to buy a two pack. I can mail you the extra one if you want it. It will just kick around until I lose it. The supplied power cable is not too hefty so 2 amps would probably do the trick for the connector. I got the connectors separate and made up my own patch cable for the connection out of 16 ga. marine wire. The breaker serves as the fuse. John

Factory T.V. DVD

I had the factory install a Sharp flat screen T.V. and a seperate DVD on my 2003, 356. They are both installed on the port side bulkhead as you enter to the front berth. Looks and works great. When Hunter installs this option they also install a cable and phone connection next to the shore power connection. We ordered a swivel arm from Sharp online so we can view the T.V. from anywhere on the boat. I highly recommend it.

David....backing plate?

David, Did you need to install a backing plate for your swivel mount? Also, what model swivel and does it go up and down and sideways? Thanks, JR

backing plate and tv mount

John, We have not mounted the tv with the new mount yet, but believe some sort of support from the opposite side of the wall would be a wise thing. The tv came installed mounted on the wall with the bracket that tilts up and down, but not sideways. We ordered an articulating arm mount that telescopes, tilts, and left-right, the brand is Peerless Industries (see link) model LCA-SP3. The arm hides the cables and cords within it. It is not as attractive as we had hoped, but will be very functional. The mount was a bit pricy, but we stopped worrying about stuff like that. Why stop now? Happy holidays, David
