Shape of mast crutch

The more I look at it, the more suspicious I get. Fellow 260er's, is your aft mast crutch straight or does it have a slight forward bend? Ours has a slight forward bend, and it causes the mast to be slightly unbalanced when being unstepped, not to mention that it rubs the bimini. When bringing the mast down today, I can see where it might acquire a slight bend as the unstepped mast is brought forward and the internal shrouds catch the crutch. Wondering if ours acquired a bend not in the original design with a previous owner, and whether I should take it to a machine shop to be straightened.

I discussed this with Hunter and my dealer and others on this site when I first bought the boat. It has to have the bend. Hunter sent me a new crutch and low and behold it too had the same bend. Check the archives for previous discussions on this. Yes, the shrouds catch in the crutch. So, using a tip from Jim Seamans, I raised the roller a few inches and all is well. Once it is raised, you have to make sure that you tie the mast to the roller well when trailering so it won't jump out. Use rope or a strap to tie the mast to the two stern cleats so the mast won't sway or jump out of the roller. I think Jim Seamans has a pic on his web site of this.

Gotta remember to check the archives more often. Yep, the issue is pretty well covered there, including the miserable little piece of plastic pipe that serves as a "roller". Another thing on the list for West Marine. Thanks
