Hi All, I want to fit a PSS dripless shaft seal to the prop shaft on my Capri 26. The shaft is 1 inch diameter and the shaft log is 1.625 inches outside diameter. The PSS comes in either 1.5 inch or 1.75 inch log diameter. Which should I go for? The smaller unit (therefore stretching it slightly over the log) or the larger one (therefore compressing it slightly onto the log)? Thanks, Tony England

Gortex packing

I just got agrivated trying to get the right seal so I tryed the green clay stuff from WM and It works good.I have no water in the bilge I keep a sponge in the bilge under the moter to sucks up anty water that drips in and helps it evaporate into the air. There is some gortex packing stuff that I hird was also a good thing... Log Diameter

I had the same question and asked Catalina. The shaft log they said was 1 and 5/8 (1.625) and they suggested the 1.5 log. The manufacture claims it is elastic enough for the stretch.

Many thanks for the replies. I think I will go for the smaller PSS unit. Does any one know what the shaft is made of? After polishing it looks like brass rather than bronze. Tony England
