Shade for my Cat 25

It sure was hot this summer on board our 25. I think that some form cockpit shading is in order. It seems that the old timers simply hoisted a tarp of canvas from the main halyard, spread the tarp with a wooden rod and tied the corners to the Lifelines. Why would that cost the better part of 500 bucks? There seems to be hugh differences in price and opinions as to the course of action with regards to this subject. Has anyone found a good soultion? What type of material is best? What size would you need for the standard rigged 25?Thanks for any helpAlan

TENT FOR A 25

WE RECENTLY PURCHASED SUNBRELLA MATERIAL AT A PIECE GOODS STORE 6x4, AND MADE A TENT. WE BOUGHT COOPER TUBING FROM LOWES TO MAKE A FRAME, MADE A FEW POCKETS IN THE MATERIAL, AND WE JUST TIE THE TENT TO THE BOOM. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TENT WE PLACED SMALL HOLES FOR ROPE TO GO THRU TO HOLD THE TENT UP. IT WORKS GREAT AND COST US LESS THAN $50.00

Sunshade

I just got an awning for my C27 from Defender, a mail order chandlery, for around $200. It was made to order and is waterproof. You can get them for less for the C25.

We spent the first hot week of the summer of '01 on our C25 on the Chesapeake under a really cheap awning, it worked fine.-a standard 8'x10' blue fabric reinforced plastic tarp attached to two 8' lengths of 1" plastic water supply tubing with wire ties at each grommet on the 8" sides;-center of one tube tied to mast above the boom and the other to the backstay with bungies;-each tube end drilled with a 1/4" bit, 5'to 6' of 1/4" line attached and then secured to nearest stanchion.Total cost about $50-$60; also, easy to set up, take down and roll and stow below or on deck.

Bimini

I bought a Bimini from Catalina Direct for my C25. Works great. Cost around $400.00 but well worth it.
