Has anyone purchased (or used) the “UltraFeed” sewing machine sold by SailRite? Looking for something to do winter projects on – not going into production. Any experience with other sewing machines capable of sewing three or four layers of sunbrella? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

use mine all the time

I use mine all the time. I've made side curtain curtains, dinghy covers, awnings and a bunch of assorted stuff consisting of multiple layers of sunbrella and clear windshield material.

Try it..

I took sunbrella fabric and went to a sewing center. They had machines ranging in price from $300. to over $2500. I settled on a Janome for about $500., lots of automation, stitches, etc. We folded the material to 4-ply to test. I just finished a bimini kit where the front/back edges were 6-ply, four layers plus the edging. Didn't even slow it down.

They're nice!

I just bought the Ultra feed Zig Zag and can't believe what a nice machine it is! It almost sews by itself with the walking foot material just slides right through. 8 layers of Sunbrella don't even slow it down. A nice piece of work at a reasonable cost and the support from Sailrite is next to none! Highly recommeneded! Dan Arsenault Serendipity Too

Mini Walker

I think that the Sailrite kit machine is a Thompson Miniwalker which they (Sailrite) sell for an exhorbitant price. I will need to check to see where else they are available. They are a nice machine but may be available through another distributer for much less. I had one of their older machines which I finally returned. It was simply a modified import machine. Email me direct at patrick.ewing@juno.com and I will let you know what I find out in the next few days. If I recall correctly, I can get the same machine for a lot less locally.
