I have a new (built 1999) Hunter which has the MaxGuard gel coat that supposedly does not need waxing. I'm not sure I'm buying that claim. What do you know about MaxGuard gel coat? I would like to use your products this spring, but have two questions...because the boat is so new, should I just clean the boat with soap and water then wax with Simply Brilliant superwax, or should I use the Sea Glow first then the Superwax? Look forward to your reply.

Partial Answer

I need to find out more about "Max Guard" . However, being brand new, there is no advantage to using SEA GLOW since the preservatives and fluorescence would not be able to penetrate into the pores since there won't be any! ALso if they say no wax (sounds like polyurethane to me) I would not like to be the one to recommend the opposite. Certainly you should NOT USE ANYTHING WITH ABRASIVES - even a "cleaner wax". I would use boat soap (or out IG Pink, a cap or so in a couple of gallons of water) and a soft bristled brush to clean of grime and film. Then apply a silicone based shine agent (e.g. our SILKENSEAL)or other non-abrasive protectant. Once the gelcoat gets scratched by compound or polish it starts to go down hill. If and when it gets chalky- then by all means use our SEA GLOW/WAX etc. Thanks JIm W.
