I have an Electromaax 140 A alternator with flat belt kit, 400 Ahrs AGM bank (Deka).

Our Sterling external regulator died just as were about to cross to the Bahamas. We switched to the alternator internal regulator and bought a Balmar MC 614-H just before we left.

The internal regulator does not have a softstart function and would squeal the belt at times. We are in a slip now in Marsh Harbour and have the Balmar installed. Other than switching it over to AGM batteries are there any other programming adjustments to make ?

(we have a Yanmar 3GM30F engine)

thanks for any tips, Bob

FDC or OPS Program (they are really the same)
Belt Manager = 3

Then into advanced programing settings:

dLc/Start Delay = 45-60 Seconds (your choice I usually start at 45 seconds)
AHL/ High Voltage Regulator Limit = 15.0V
CL/Temp Compensation Limit = 15.0V
bv/Bulk Voltage = 14.6V
b1c/Bulk Time = 1 Hour
Av/Absorption Voltage = 14.4V
A1c/Absorption Time = 4-6 Hours (depends on your alts performance and your average DOD)
Fv/Float Voltage = 13.6V
F1C/Float Time = 12 Hours
AL1/Alt Temp Compensation = 220F

For best performance be sure the alt is directly feeding the house bank and the v-sense wire is also sensing there. A lot of performance is often lost due to volt sensing issues..

Maine, thanks so much for this. I feel better knowing it will be done right. I think I owe you another drink for this one. Until then we will have another Bilgeburner tonight in your honour !
Regards, Bob
