Oh no. I am hoping this is not your boat.

FWIW, we talk to at least 6 people every year who do exactly the same thing. It's anything but uncommon. Knowing that doesn't make it any better, though.

Not mine, but I couldn`t figure how to type that in with the photo. It showed up in my F/B page today. I figured someone will locate it sooner or later sooner or later. It was timely to me because I brought mine
home Sunday.(with no drama!)

Whew. :dancing:

Funny, I don't see the State Farm agent lifting those power lines out of the way in the nick of time.

There was an incident yesterday in which an elderly man evidently wanted to get some scallops - yesterday being opening day. Wags in New Suffolk say the trailer lost a wheel at the firehouse in Cutchogue, about a mile and a half from the supposed launch ramp. That did not deter him. He continued literally dragging the wheel hub which was making a furrow in the road on the way to the ramp, a horrible noise and was leaving more and more parts of the suspension of the trailer on the road. Leaf springs were spotted still some distance from the ramp. At some point the boat slid off the fatally wounded trailer and was skidding along the roadway as the still un-dettered man continued towards the ramp. As the man approached New Suffolk the local narrative maintains that due the unresponsive trailer/boat rig behind his towing vehicle, he wiped out two cars sides one being said to be totaled. But the story doesn't end there. The noise was so horrible that people started to gather to find out what was going on. And therein lies our hope of video - which I've been told exists. Despite having caused road damage, and damaging two cars, the man continues toward the ramp still making horrible noise and the trailer/boat combo drags on the pavement. He pulls into the trailer launch area and wipes out the back of at least two trailers of other scallop fishermen, who were no doubt unhappy to see their trailer's lights in tatters when they came in at dusk. And then the intrepid boat dragger, according to oral reports, actually tried to back the mortally damaged rig onto the ramp. Of course, that didn't go well. Not surprisingly the whole thing didn't back too good and mostly the trailer/boat just lifted up. This is when the police showed up. When the officer asked, with incredulousness, "What are you doing?" the response was "What's the problem?"
No one was injured. I'm praying I can get some video.

A guy I know has a motto: "Don't sail where the trees are", so maybe that's his boat?

My mom has dimensia. Something we realized is that when the brain starts developing holes in the memory, it tends to interpolate and fills in the gaps with what ever is logical. Most of the time, everything she states makes perfect sense, as long as you don't know the real story. I think all of our brains do that to some extent. The scary part is, we don't know how much it is happening. When we are middle aged, we just pass them off as brain farts. As we get older, they become senior moments. Eventually those moments become long gaps. Then we wonder how in the world that happened.

This is a good reminder to trailer sailors to look up for any aerial obstructions between the staging area and the ramp.

Well I never located any video. But there are some pictures curtesy of East End Beacon via Timeline photos. I'm sorry I can't post them directly. The boats used for scalloping all look pretty rough.

it means if you are over 13 ft 6 inches in height you have to permit the cargo and can't travel without it and if you can't get a permit you can't haul your cargo on the roads and highways ...having a mast up and going down the road is way too tall....and usually anything over 16 ft has to be routed on open highways with no overhead obstructions and usually is a nightmare

Good advice Woodster on 13.6 rule. I always taught my customers never to transport a boat with mast up unless you walk the drive to launch area and vice versa to make darn sure. I know of two deaths that occurred from with mast up and hitting power lines, trees and so forth. People need to remind themselves of that not to mention the lawsuits that are filed.

that's also good advice about the power lines ...that's why they have the 13.6 rule the power people have to set their power lines accordingly and that makes everyone on the same page

The place where I launch, every time I launch, they mention the wires. Even though they have gotten used to seeing me there, they still make mention as I head to the ramp. Of course the wires that have a potential to be hit, go into the side of their marine store. No doubt they really don't want to loose power.

Good for them. You just never know when any one of us might have one of those brain farts or senior moments you mentioned. I began having those occasionally around age ... twelve, I think it was.
