I have a 60-70's vintage Javelin which has a serious split under the seat area (about 30 inches). This is a sealed area with foam flotation. The damage is due to storing the boat on a platform, which slipped and let the boat slide off. The seat compartment appears to have a block of styrofoam flotation inside. My first thoughts are to try and fill the seat compartment cavity with expanding foam, them glassing over the split area. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If the split is such that you can fit it back together easily, you can just sand the area around hte crack with a disc sander using coarse grit paper then glass over the split. I'd use 2-3 layers of cloth and Epoxy resin. A bit of web surfing will reveal a couple of old JAVELIN restorations, including replacing hte transom core. www.lackeysailing.com has some pics of a DS II repair job that he did once. That boat was damaged when a tree fell on the boat and cracked the hull and cockpit. Tim Lackey might be able to give some great advice on your project. Also the various Epoxy makers have info on their web sites for various repairs.
