I am having a problem finding the serial number on my trailer for a '87 h23 wing keel! Some say there isn't a number, but the insurance company says there is! They won't insure it. Can someone give me some advice on how I can get it insured and where to find the serial number? Thanks again Jason

Jason, On my 95 Hunter trailer for my H26 the
trailer number is stamped into the top of the forward V rail on the left (port) side....So follow the trailer tongue back from the hitch to where the frame makes a V to widen out. The number is right there. Use a dish washing sponge that is damp and run it down the top rail on the left side and the water will expose the numbers. They are damn near invisable against the galvanized background. Using water was the only way I just found them right now and I had seen them before! Hope this helps. Ray S/V Speedy

I have a '94 h26 with trailer bought used from a dealer. They thought they acquired the trailer new but had no papers, Hunter lost the papers in a flood. It was a real bear to title it in N.Y. Had to get letters from Hunter and the broker stating the origional paper work lost and that the broker owned it. Believe it or not, the trailer was titled as new since it was never sold. For some reason the vin was only 16 letters/numbers when the U.S. standard is 17, but they titled it anyway. I saw a '95 Hunter trailer for a h26. It had a rivited plate with the vin on it. It also had a stamped vin grinded off where Ray's and my trailer have it stamped into the metal. So, It is possible that your trailer had such a plate that fell or was pulled off. Davor's suggestion is a viable alternative and almost the route I had to go. Your state will assign a vin to a homemade unit. You will probably need to get it officially wieghed Contact your states DMV if the vin is not on the registration or you can't produce a proper paper trail. alan

Virginia allowed me to rivet a VIN plaque which they assigned me, a state trooper came out and inspected that I had permanently attached it to the trailer and I got it titled. This is the "homemade" route mentioned. Perhaps Wisconsin has a similar procedure. Interestingly, my insurance company did not ask for the VIN, but I needed it to license the rig.

I do not have the paperwork for the trailer and I can't really make out the numbers, the sticker is falling apart. I was thinking of making up a number for so I can have it insured. I am not trying to really fool anyone or anything. The trailer is not worth that much I just need to have it insured. Thanks all for the suggestions, but if worst comes to worst I will just take my chances and not insure it. If I would have to deal with the DMV here is Oshkosh forget it.
