yep -

it means that you have an O'day built boat, (which in 82 would be a DS2; Spindrift was building the DS1 at that point), production number 10979, built in October, 1982. Unlike cars, boat models are not identified in the VIN/HID. Serial number is for production run by either the company, or by the facility. For example, Performance Sailcraft boats indicate the point of origin in their HID's. Justin - O'day Owner's Web

THE NUMBERS YOU MENTION APPEAR TO BE A HULL I.D. # indicating that your boat is a 1982 model. If you ever want to register your boat you will need these #s and probably a title
