I've lost track. So I checked with Wikipedia and found this:

A rich history. Somehow I feel her continued service to our country would justify her upkeep - which I get is a lot. There's something intangible in the ability for high officials to be able to meet on a beautiful, historic, venue to maybe make amends. Everyone feels good when they are styling. Will they sell Camp David because it's expensive to maintain? Sometimes beauty should exist for its own sake.

I guess President Carter was correct, we have an affinity for pompous monarchic behavior, as he was criticized for decommissioning and selling the Sequoia.
