Hello

I wanted to see if anyone has ever used the Semco Sealer on Teak or their 2 part cleaner.

Did you like it for ease of use or durability?

Thank you
Mike

Mike, we tried the Semco sealer on our teak and hated it. It looked terrible in a short period of time and it is really difficult to remove once you decide to replace it. Of course this was in South Florida and the northern Caribbean. In may hold up better in the northern climates.

I use Semco with fairly good results in brackish water. It does gets easily blotched when saltwater is over the bow but still keeps the decks from turning grey even with a bit of 'blotching'. Usually lasts 2-3 months but has to be double coated.

My current 'mix' is 1/3 Semco Natural, 1/3 Teak Wonder, 1/3 Olympic (carmel) deck sealer ... 3 coats will get me through 6 months and green water doesnt blotch it as before. Best of all these are 'water wettable' and you have little loss with deck shoe to deck adhesion when the deck is wet. If needing to 'repair' any salt water blotching, just brush on some oxalic acid which will soak through the coating to the wood ... and without disturbing, etc. the coating.

I've tried both. The cleaner works pretty well but I've had the same problem with the sealer. The color can be a little strange and, like Chuckbear said, it is impossible to get off once its on.

I used the Semco Honey-Tone on some teak patio furniture and loved it! I sprayed it on with a garden sprayer. I put some on the boat (after ten years of varnish and Cetol, which I hated) and it has proven to be holding up pretty well in SoCal.

Semco was the fad about 25 years ago. Another was Deks Olje. Now the fad seems to be Sikkens Cetol. If you want a decent coating with little time investment, it is not bad stuff in my opinion. Another to look at is Amazon's Teak treatment. Experiment before jumping in with both feet just to make sure you like it.

I used Semco for years, two coats would last two years then a light scrub with a scothbright pad and plain water would get ready for a fresh coat. I stopped using it because no one sold it any more. Who carries it now? I figured it had VOC's and was banned by the EPA.
