We are interested in listing our Hunter for sale due to new baby but are unsure on how to go about this. Do people generally use a broker to sell their boats, local papers, etc? This is the first boat we have every sold and we live in somewhat of a small place. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Dave

You can post your boat on one of the forums. Just click on 'Boats for Sale'. Just curious, whats the new baby got to do with your boat? We took our son sailing with us at 6 weeks of age.

Sailing Grandkids

We had a couple of our grandkids aboard at two months old. Nap-time was in the V berth with a few extra pillows. The rocking helps put them to sleep. Keep the boat! Jeff P.S. I sold my old boat on this site within a couple of weeks.

Use the Internet

We recently sold our Hunter 30 (1980) after about 3 months on the market. We listed it on this Hunter Owner's site under Boat for Sale and got about two inquiries per week. We listed it in Soundings magazine but did not get many calls through that source. We also listed it with a local broker to get more exposure in our area and they did bring us a qualified buyer who finally bought it. I would suggest posting an extensive equipment list and take a bunch of digital photos of the inside and outside of the boat. Most inquiries were by email and all wanted photos and more information. An immaculately clean and uncluttered boat will bring you top dollar.

STOP!!!!

Dave, Stop, don't sell your boat if you do not really really need the money. I have a 15 month old who loves the boat. We take him out with us about once a week and spend many weekends onboard. When he was younger we would partition off the aft birth and fill it with toys and pillows. He went to sleep from the movement and we sailed. There are a few precautions we took such as lifeline netting. Now that he is really getting around he walks the cockpit under heel better than I rings the bell, steers and takes everything in. Here is a photo of what you will be missing...

Don't Sell

Don't Sell!!! I live on a Hunter 30 with my wife, and our TWO year old daughter. She has lived onboard boats since her inception, and she loves it. She is always careful (99% of the time), but kids will be kids. She can climb the companionway steps and get into the cockpit where she stays. We have added numerous safety features to protect her onboard (Both inside, and on the deck). Her most favorite part of the boat is the aft quarter berth. She loves to play up in there. She has gotten more bruises from playing at her grandparents then she has on the boat. We are planning on a long term cruise beginning in Oct. of 2006. Just a thought for you.

Free Listing

Take a look at sailingtexas.com for a free 90 day listing. After that you will be asked to lower the price by 5% for another 90 days. Most people ask 10 to 20% high to start anyway. Boats are listed from around the world, not just Texas. Seems to be quite a few sells completed from this site. Good Luck R.A.B.

Time and money

Thank you all for your help in assisting us with our boat. I wish that at the current time we could keep our boat but new time restrictions and money, with new house purchase are holding us back. We plan to purchase another Hunter 30 in the future but unfortunately this is our only option. Thank you again! Dave
