Selling a Hunter

I have a new Hunter, a 2002 326 with qll the "stuff" - purchased in the winter and awaiting commisioning and launching this summer. The issue is that I will be moving and am thinking that I won't have a use for the boat after the summer (summer is only July and August for me). That leads me to two questions. Question #1 - Should I consider selling the boat before it has ever been used at all - essentially new at the dealer? (I understand it is still teccnicaly used) Or use it this summer and sell it at the end? How much of a difference would it make to you if you were condsidering the purchase? Question #2 - Where is the best place to sell it -brokerage or give it a try on this web site for example?

What model is it?

I would think that the model and year would have a lot to do with the "should I" questions. When you are ready to sell (before or after), I suggest you try this type of site first, as it may be a lot more cost effective.

never used

I would think a boat that never touched the water(salt water)is no brainer never been used and still new would be a great deal for some to get , so advertise right here that's where I found my boat last year, so every one is dieing to know what model.

Where to advertise

Now is the best time to get the top price, because the sailing season is upon us. Come fall, prices drop because demand drops. I would start with the closest big daily newspaper, probably the Hartford Courant. First, check to see the range of sailboat ads in the classifieds to be sure they have a ready market. Second, run a three-line ad in Sailing magazine, the big one with all the classifieds in the back. These ads also run on their web site, an added plus for exposure. Finally, put a sign on the boat since that counts too as an effective marketing tool. People looking for boats tend to go to marinas and yards because that's where the action is. For price comparisons, check this Hunter web site under the "For Sale" rail to see what comparable models go for. Since yours is virtually new, ratchet up the price accordingly.

Sorry, Ed...

This is a _great_ discussion regarding how to sell a used but unused boat, and everyone is more than welcome to help you figure out where and how to sell it, but posting the specifics of the boat is about the same as posting an ad, and our policy doesn't permit that. Otherwise, have at it!

Sorry Phil

Didn't think of that - really - just reponding to a question back from one of the people that answered my original post. I understand and am sorry I replied in this manner. Fully understand the issue and it won't happen again. Love your site. Ed
