The V-berth on my 25 is the only place I sleep. I use either a wind scoop or an AC unit. I have found it is the coolest with the wind scoop as the air is moving over you more directly. When I use the AC, I close the door to the salon so I am cooling a smaller area. My wife and son sleep with me in the V-berth.

Never ever tell my wife I posted this picture....shhhhhhhh!

Thanks for the input and ideas. I too manage to bump my head plenty on that pesky forward hatch. Also ,I have been going over in my head a plan to make a slide out for the starboard bunk/settee.
Fortunately the days of mid 90's weather are just now ending...for the first time since June we are forecast to have several days in the 80's, and will prob not see continuous 90's again this year, if at all.
This is our prime sailing weather, IMHO.

I have my ac, a small 100 dollar deal, mounted into a plywood frame that slides into the gangway hatch. it doesn't cool the vbirth so well, but i have used it and slept there. do you have yours mounted somewhere in the vbirth?

I use the hatch above the V-berth. I have a very simple set up. A 90 degree shelf that's lip rests on the edge of the hatch and then I cut some pieces that hold the hatch lid open and uses the hatch lid to guide the air down into the boat. I never took an up close shot but I think you can get the ides from these photos. I just lay some towels over to fill the gaps. The hatch boards for the AC unit stores away in the boat nicely and takes up very little room.

I like the placement of the AC in the hatch so i can run it from the generator when away from the dock. It also makes getting in and out of the companionway easy.

good job dave, i am pleased that the mainsheet traveler is far enough back on the 26 that i can sail and leave the ac in the gangway hatch. but it does create aproblem getting in and out of the boat.

It looks nice Dave. I was down in Camp Stuart Ga one summer in the early 1960s and I couldn't believe how hot it got down there. Us Yankees up here just can't take that kind of heat down there don't sha know.

Joe, hot aint' the word. this summer i had a three day "adventure" planned where me, myself, and I were going to sail to a little island on our lake. I was going to sail out (about four hours), spend the night, all the next day, and then sail back the third morning. It was late july. By three in the afternoon of the first day, just as i was getting to the island, the temp on the surface of the lake was 101, and my cabin registered a cool 118. The wind was completely dead. I don't have to mention the humidity. To make things worse the water on the lake gets downright hot to a depth of about four feet. I started getting ill from the heat and swimming didn't help. I fired up the motor, and went home!:cry:

Wow! I don't think I could stand that kind of heat. You're lucky you didn't get heat exhaustion.
I had an uncle named William E. Smith who was a sheriff in a little town named Woodbine GA. He and my Aunt Jackie used to live upstairs over the jail. Whenever they came to visit us in MA., they would occasionally sit in their car with the air conditioner on. We never had air conditioners in the house when I was growing up. I still love summer today.
