10s and 16s Are Small
My H-35 has 23's for the main and jib halyard winches and they seem marginal. A check with the West Marine Advisor inidcates the recommended main halyard winch for a 33-35 ft boat is a 24 and the jib is a 30 (mast head assumed). For the 35-37 ft range the recommended main halyard winch is a 30, which, because a Hunter tends to have a fairly large main, could be more appropriate for the 35 and possibly a good choice for the 34 as well.Since the halyard winches aren't used that much, compared to the primaries, a 24 for the main on the H-34 appears adequate. The primaries on my 35 were 24s which I changed out to 43s and it's like power steering! The 24s were moved aft as secondaries.
