I find my winch on the roof a bit small on my H34 83, I've been told they are originals : Lewmar ST10, I'd like to replace them, what should I use ? Anyone as some used for sale or trade for those two ? André

Check Boastscape.com auction site. There are a few listed, I don't know if the sizes are right but you should look. I would also check Ebay.com. Good luck,
Changed mine
Got rid of my Lewmar 16 self tailing and put on Lewmar 30 non self tailing. Best thing I ever did. 2 speed winches should have been used to begin with. Got them at a consignment store in Houston. Traded mine and some cash.

10s and 16s Are Small
My H-35 has 23's for the main and jib halyard winches and they seem marginal. A check with the West Marine Advisor inidcates the recommended main halyard winch for a 33-35 ft boat is a 24 and the jib is a 30 (mast head assumed). For the 35-37 ft range the recommended main halyard winch is a 30, which, because a Hunter tends to have a fairly large main, could be more appropriate for the 35 and possibly a good choice for the 34 as well. Since the halyard winches aren't used that much, compared to the primaries, a 24 for the main on the H-34 appears adequate. The primaries on my 35 were 24s which I changed out to 43s and it's like power steering! The 24s were moved aft as secondaries.

I have a Maxwell 24STA two speed on my 34 (deck mounted) and it is fine for halyards.Recently I contacted them because I wanted to take it apart and clean it. They were very helpful in sending me information and diagrams. They can be contacted at 949-631-2634. (California)Contrast this to Lemar...I have a broken gear and they dont answer their phone, lousy web site, etc.
