Selden GX15 Top Down Furler

We recently installed a Selden GX15 Top Down Furler on our Catalina 36 with a Selden retractable sprit pole. We have had significant problems unfurling the asymmetrical spinnaker. We have tried putting on lots of halyard tension and have tried using the furlng line to kick start the unfurl all for naught. Once the unfurling starts and there is enough sail to begin to catch the wind, the sail comes out beautifully. Its just really tough getting the thing started. Has anyone had similar experiences and come up with solutions?

We had a Selden GX10. Unfurling the sail was never the problem - our issues was bringing the sail back in. I agree that plenty of halyard tension is important to make sure that the anti-torsion line is really tight. We also went pretty deep downwind to both unfurl and furl so that the main blanketed the headsail. Other than those two suggestions, maybe you have some mechanical obstruction in the furler itself or perhaps the furling line is not running free?
