I am installing the selden bowsprit to my hundred 340. I have installed the front ring support. I need some advice on the installing the back pad eye to boat For the rear of the bowsprit. Can I just screw it down. All help will be greatly appreciated

I'm surprised if Selden doesn't mention anything about it if they provide installation instructions. I suspect that the forward ring takes the upward pull and the rear pad eye has a downward force and probably a shear load, as the lever is at the forward ring. That said, I'm always more comfortable with through bolts rather than lag bolts. The access underneath will either be in the v-berth or forward of the v-berth if the bulkhead is set far enough back. I read about an installation that used through bolts with large diameter washers for the backing, installed with 5200 for bedding. I wouldn't use 5200 but I would be fine with thick washers if a backing plate can't be found. But I would definitely use backing of some kind and I definitely wouldn't use lag bolts or a blind end for screws. I'm sure they recommend a minimum diameter for the bolts, or if they don't, obviously you would be limited by the size of the holes provided on pad eye.

Just to add to Scott’s recommendations- I’d also overdrill the holes, fill with thickened epoxy, and redrill. That part of the deck is probably cored and you don’t want any water that leaks past the bedding to get to the core.

I'll be very happy to hear about your installation with photos of all the key features. I also want to install one of those Selden bowsprits. I've wondered about how best to work around interference with the anchor locker!

I was thinking about getting one of these in order to use a top down furler on my Asymm but may have come up with another idea. I have a nice line-drive whisker pole that doesn't get much use anymore. I am thinking of building a sleeve that I can mount to my unused port side anchor roller which is a part of my stem fitting and very strong. I could than use the whisker poll with the back end held by a deck chock.

Just be sure the whisker pole itself is strong enough. Generally whisker poles can be built pretty light weight, since they don’t take much force just holding out the clew of a jib. A spinnaker tack on the other hand takes a lot of both compression and bending forces.

I have compared the diameter and wall thickness of the recommended Selden sprit and my 12'-22' line drive is much heavier than that. The pole that came with Papillon is rated for C36 to C38 according to the Forespar guide, so it is way oversized.

I just screwed mine down. Haven’t had any trouble with it.
I figure the fewer holes through the deck the better.

I'd through bolt.

Whether you through bolt or just screw it down, you've made a couple holes in your deck. Through bolting allows you to do a proper fill and drill with epoxy to protect your deck core. Screw it down, and your only defense is the sealant.
