Where is the Leak?
Lorrie, Most but not all depth sounder transducers are removable even with the boat in the water. Generally, if the leak is at the top or wire end of the transducer, then the problem is with the sealing gasket or o-ring on the removable part of the transducer. If the leak is at the bottom where the transducer fitting comes through the hull, then I would haul the boat and have it fixed properly. If your transducer is removable, you should have a plug in the same shape as the removable part of the fitting (the plug should have come with the instrument). Most transducers have a pin or other device to hold the transducer into the though-hull fitting. Once the pin is removed, the transducer can be removed and replaced with the plug. CAUTION: Have the plug ready to go into the through hull because LOTS of water will come in until you get the plug into place. Once the transducer is out, replace the o-rings or gaskets and give the gasket/o-ring area a liberal coat of silicon grease. Reverse the procedure to put the tranducer back into the through hull. Don't forget to secure the transducer into the through hull with the pin or other retaining device. Hopefully, you have the removable type. Rodney Kidd C-38 #297, Flying Bear
