Or perhaps 'Crime Scene' is more appropiate. Either way, the 2010 season is over, just 12 hours after a great passasge north for delivery to Monroe Harbor, Chicago, Illinois. A storm blew in from the east (rare) May 10th/11th, w/ winds clocked in the 50's and an adjacent boat drug her mooring approximately 150', eventually positioning herself perfectly to bash-&-thrash the port-side gunnel all night long, culminating in total destruction. As least she didn't sink, as did a 37' C&C, directly in front of the harbor office. 6+ footers within the harbor confines will have this effect, especially if a mooring harness parts.

Soooo, the insurance process begins, now that the shock has diminished (but not vanished). It's amazing how a 24-year old boat can weave itself into the fabric of ones life. 6+ years of preparation for an eventful summer, all put on permanent hold.

No one was injured (regardless of the crime scene tarp) and the outpouring from the extended/peripheral sailing network has been heartening.

And now...to hitch rides aboard newer and faster vessels until the 'Next Phase' is acquired.

I'll continue to lurk and learn, in preparation. Take care all and be well.

Keep Us Informed

...we'd like to know how this goes with the insurance whomever pays, yours or the other owner's. I suspect it will be yours and the two of them will work it out. If nothing else, it's a great market for buyers! Even so, you certainly do get attached to your boat and it's tough dealing with an unexpected incident like this. Sorry, but best of luck.

Depending on your insurance company, you should get a check within a few weeks and there are plenty of boats for sale (sail). You could be sailing again by July 4th.

My condolences & good luck with the settlement.

Please keep us informed as this proceeds.

PS: You have parts on this boat that some would kill for (IE: stanchion bases, toe rail etc)
