I recently purchased a 1981 23 foot Sovereign Adventure. Im seeking any specs anyone may have on this boat, such as displacement, ballast , hull speed or max recommended hp for outboard. It has a fixed shoal keel. I am also curious to find out what years Sovereign was in business and where they were located.

Sovereign 23

Hi Rick, I have a Sovereign 23 also. I am on the owner's site with a picture. There was one like yours just listed on e-bay that was canceled up in your area on a trailer and wonder if that is yours? There is also an owner site on Yahoo I will enclose the link. Here are some specs: LOD 23'0" DWL 18'6" beam 8' shoal draft 2'4" ballast 1350 lbs weight 3600 lbs. Outboard is up to you on Hp and weight. I had a 5 Hp 2 cycle Mercury on a lake about 50 lbs. I sold it to move along the coast and upgraded my motor mount for a 8 HP 4 cycle at 96 lbs. The one thing to remember is since the motor is on one side the weight will have an impact of the boat leaning when slipped. The 5 HP wasn't enough weight and the boat did lean a bit to the other side when slipped. The mount area is reinforced but if you upgrade to a heavy 4 cycle I would use a backing on the inside. Sovereign feedack much appreciated

Hello Fred, Thanks for the info, and yes you are correct, I got that boat from ebay,Im getting it ready for next season, just got a Tohatsu 9.9 long shaft for it.(hope its not too long, the mount seems a bit low) I did an inventory , and found this boat has 5 sails, genoa, main, and 3 strange looking ones that at first glance appeard to be a "Windsock"? I'll have to get someone at the marina to explain how /when to use them. As you might have guessed, im relatively new to sailing,my last sailboat only had a main and jib, it was a Gloucester 22 and was a load of fun learning as I go.
