Just after other people's points of view concerning securing a boat in a marina. I have to leave the boat in a marina for a several weeks should I have it secured tight against the marina hard against the fenders or let the boat sit off the marina with fenders not touching the marina. Just worried about fenders rubbing against the boat. As you guessed this is my first yacht. Cheers.

I agree. The wind, waves, and tides will all change the boat's position within the slip. The conditions that existed when you tied it hard against the slip will not exist for long.

I leave my centered in the slip, with a small amount of slack in the lines, and clearance between fenders and slip.

and don't forget to leave slack in the electrical cord if you use one.

What kind of slip is it? If you are on a floating dock with the boat tied up side-to with no access to the other side of the slip, you'll want the boat tied up snugly, with the fenders just touching, using spring lines, of course. If you have access to the other side of the slip, you can tie her off a bit more. If you are on a fixed dock with pilings, you would have to center her in the slip, leaving a little slack in the lines ( I assume there are no tides involved ). In any case, leave your phone number with a dock mate or the dock master in case conditions deteriorate. There are many times when my friends and I run around, doubling up on lines of boats that we know have owners who can't be there in a hurry.
