After 20 years I am replacing the 6 gal water heater on my cat 30 which I have owned for 3 years. I am replacing the heater with a similar seaward heater. My question is at the heater inlet there is a petcock/valve that is conected to a remote coolant tank. The brass unit appears to no longer function, any idea where a replacement can be obtained or if an alternate set up can be fabricated. I believe the unit is to 1 release air from the coolant hose as this is at the top of the colant hose and 2 to allow coolant to flow to and from the remote tank. Thanks

Tom: I recently replaced the Seaward 6 gal heater on my 1990 Catalina 28 (See my postings on this forum for all the ugly details!). there was no such brass tank, just a bleed valve at the high end of the coolant line. Sounds like you have an expansion tank for the coolant. Perhaps Catalina decided in 1990 that a tank was no longer necessary. You should contact Catalina. Good luck with your replacement, mine was a bear.
