Seaward Hot Water Tank

The 6 gal Seaward hot water tank on our 1992 335 continually trips the reset button when using 120V after abot 2 hours of use. The water, although very hot is the usual temperature. Does anyone know if this is a replacable part. Or is the problem elsewhere. Waiting for feedback from Seaward.... Merrill S/V Ambition

HW heater

I've been told that you can replace the electric heating element with a generic unit from Home Depot or wherever, but I've never done it. At least you can get to the HW heater under the dinette. But I don't think that heating element is bad if it heats up the water, actually, its working TOO well. Just a thought, is it possible that the HW and CW lines are reversed? I finally marked mine because every spring I forgot which is which after draining the HW for the winter.

Try this!

If your breaker is tripping, either you are drawing too much load or your breaker is set too low. Try switch your water heater to another breaker for a short while if that breaker trips the problem is with the heater or the wiring. Check the current rating of both your heater and yopur breaker and make sure they match. Unlikely you will be able to use a standard water heater as I don't think there is anyway to hook in your engine lines.

It can be fixed

I had the same problem a few years ago and contacted the factory. I think they are in California - try a search. If I remember, I thought I needed a new t'stat but they recommended a new reset switch. I bought what they recommended and it fixed the problem. I may have saved the info but I would have to look for it. Let me know if you have trouble finding them and I'll do some looking for you (cesarid@umsystem.edu).

clarification

I meant that you can replace just the electric heating element, the part that actually heats the water, not the entire HW heater. I think you already have this address but here it is anyway: Seaward Products 3721 Capitol Ave. Whittier, CA90601-1732 562-699-7997
