The '83 I just bought has a new Seaward Hillerange propane stove which previous owners never used. I turned on the tank in the aft lazerette, switched on the solenoid, turned the burner knob to IGN, held it in for 10 seconds per instructions, then pushed in the red ignitor on the left of the front panel. A flame sparked but no ignition; no ignition on either burner. Any suggestions why the stove won't light? Thanks in advance:)

assuming the tank has product in it, verify that the gas is reaching the burner. sometimes it may take a little longer, ie. longer than 10 but less than 20 seconds. make sure the cabin is well ventilated. if there's gas at the burner and you have a spark, it should light. if doing repetitive tests be safe and ventilate the bilge and cabin well b-4 each test. hope this helped.

I don't believe gas is reaching the burners and, yes, the tank has gas in it. Neither of the previous owners has a clue why the burners won't light. Frustrating.

Be sure to run the bilge blower while you're dealing with the propane system, at least until you're sure you have a working, leak-free system. Wouldn't hurt to put your nose in the bilge for a whiff either.

There's chance you haven't purged all the air out of the lines yet. There's also a chance the solenoid isn't opening properly or, Heaven forbid, there's a leak in the line.

Lucky lucky. I gave up on my Hillerange alcohol stove. One burner works fine, one is wild- leaping- flames-I don't need in a boat kind of situation. I figured since I only ever used one burner to make coffee, I removed the oversized mammoth and it now sits quietly in the corner of my workshop. Left me a huge hole of spare space.

I'll add my $.02

Frank's stove is gorgeous, like brand new. The installation is clean too. We fired up both stovetop burners and the oven a few times and everything worked like a charm.

And Frank, thanks for the sail today, it was an unexpected pleasure.

If the conditions are the same, keep the main up all the way back to the slip and you'll be fine.

Almost identical conditions, engine ran fine, left the main up, grateful for the able bodied assistance. They had a fine time and look forward to more sailing on LUCKY PENNY. You, too, amigo. We hove to for lunch; I'll e-mail you a Blackberry pic.

I've got a 1980 C30 with a Hillerange Alcohol stove.. do you know of any place that still makes those conversion parts to make it a propane stove? I checked on the Catalina site and the owner's site, and the place that's listed there no longer does this... any ideas? Would hate to have to buy a whole new stove, and really don't like to mess with the alcohol stove while the boat is heeling and bouncing around...
