I need help in sourceing a replacement for the original Seaward alcohol stove. My 1985 Catalina 27 has a 2 burner model with burners that are leaking. It does not appear that they can be repaired. Please help, all my wife wants is coffe in the morning.

Alcohol Stove

Try Seaward, don't know if they make pressurized models anymore. Since they are rightly called curtain burners, you might want to consider the non-pressurized Origo units. We did that with our C25 and were very happy for many years, back when a two burner costs what a one burner does today. They're pricey. Other choice is to shop an outdoors camping store, like REI, and see what works for you from that source. If it's only coffee, keep the heating costs down. Good luck, Stu

inverter

How about an inverter? I plug in the inverter to a 12 volt recepticle and the electric coffee maker into the inverter. The inverter, coffee maker, filters and coffee was less than a $100 bucks. Question: How long will an opened container of coffee last onboard with the heat and humidity?

Coffee trick

An inverter uses 10 times the power of any 12 v appliance from your batteries because it boosts the voltage from 12 to between 100/120. Unless you have a healthy energy budget, it's a heckava load on the house bank for coffee. We use the stove to heat hot water in a tea kettle, then a Maleta (sp?) filter into a thermos. Stays hot all day. Your boat your choice, but I've never understood using an inverter to power household appliances on a 12 V boat. Sure, they're great for TVs and drills and some other stuff, but those things (unless you buy a 12v TV which you can't use anywhere else) are rarely in use constantly or for long periods of time. It's like, "Let's bring a table lamp from home and use the inverter to light the 120 v lamps for four hours and wonder why our battery bank is flat." Or a toaster!!! *box Just my opinion, folks, I'm a Luddite when it comes to saving 12v house power. :) Stu

A french press works well for me altho the last

cup is like eating the worm from the Tequila. I have a 2 burner stove & a teakettle, couple thermos(es?) so fill one with extra coffee & other with extra hot water. Maybe just the Magma propane BBQ/stove might be enough for your purposes. Keeps the fire outside the cabin. Maybe we should call them "freedom presses" & even tho made of glass I've seen them on a lot of boats.
