WE ARE MOVING TO THE ST PETERSBURG AREA AND ARE CONSIDERING BUYING A SEAWARD 26RK. CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW THIS BOAT WOULD HANDLE IN THE GULF OF MEXICO?
I live close to St Pete and spend a lot of time there. It's really a nice city and I hope to call St Pete home someday.
I have only seen the Seaward at boat shows but I really liked it. Draft is a huge issue here and Seaward has that covered. When the depth sounder reaches 6 feet you start to breath easy and I am not kidding. Very shallow area's.
A must have on any boat here is lot's of shade, boom tent and a/c if possible. I sail the Gulf coast only a few times had the stink boat out there many times. For the most part the summer winds are light and the gulf calm without the swells of the Atlantic. {barring storms}. The intercoastal waterway is easy, safe and a ball if you like restaurants and bars. Sorry I can't answer you question directly about the boat but I think you'll love the area [and the boat}. Jack
Like Sailor Jack said, the Gulf is mild unless there
are storms. We do have skinny water here in Florida but you will find the depths in Tampa Bay to be 15' to 20' on the average. The Seaward seems a good boat which should handle well in the Bay and Gulf. I understand it was designed to be a trailerable and would question your choice unless you are going to trailer it. Any boat with a 4 1/2 draft will be more than adequate for these waters. There is a a 26RK docked at the TWin Dolphins Marina in the Manatee River. I think a dealer has it. Maybe you can get a good deal.
Shold be just fine for this area, the bigger question is where are you going to keep it. Slips are a major problem in the bay.
that is a very nice boat// hope you enjoy it.
has anyone told you about the snakes, alligators, sharks, mosquitoes, lightning and miserable weather?
just doing my part for the few Fla. crackers that are left.
