I have read about the idea of using the length of tubing attached to the rudder, (and designed to hold the mast crutch in place) as an attachment point for an emergency tiller in case the wheel steering fails. Mystified by a hinged length of galvanized tubing I found in the cabin locker, the revelation hit me that this was indeed the emergency tiller. The lower tube is notched to slot around the bolt which passes through the crutch-holding tube. A simple welded bracket holds the tiller portion. Crude, but feels and looks effective.
